This week in women’s soccer news, the Women’s FA Cup crowned a champion, Sam Kerr had another Sam Kerr moment, questions are starting to be raised about USWNT players missing from their NWSL starting 11s, a heartwarming moment from Angel City, and much more. Your recap of the past week’s WoSo news is here; check it out.

Sam Kerr is simply unstoppable! Chelsea and Manchester United battled it out for the Women’s FA Cup championship trophy on Sunday in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley Stadium.
In the second half of the back-and-forth match, Kerr put one in the back of the net and celebrated just as we would expect her to–with a backflip.
Low of the Weekend
#ReignSupreme Laura Harvey on Rose Lavelle's injury (q:@SusieRants) -It's the one that kept her out of the last national team game & has kept her out ever since. She's on the mend, she's back on the field and she's training. It's just taken a little bit longer than we all wanted
— Taylor Vincent (@tayvincent6) May 14, 2023
Rose Lavelle has missed four matches for OL Reign because of a leg injury. Luckily, Coach Laura Harvey said she’s back in training with the team, but it begs the question about her durability right before World Cup time.
Like Lavelle, AD Franch hasn’t seen much game time for the Current. She played in this past weekend’s game, but we’ve been seeing Cassie Miller get the start over Franch several times. This is also surprising, considering Franch is expected to be on the USWNT’s World Cup roster.
News of the Weekend
🚨 BREAKING 🚨
According to our sources Chelsea are leading the race for Cat Macario. Nothing signed yet, but the player is impressed by the club's pitch and vision. pic.twitter.com/xplpbJGqav

Everyone has been quietly and patiently waiting for news about Catarina Macario. And we’ve finally heard a rumor… she might be heading to Chelsea!
Macario’s been out since last year from an ACL tear, but as she’s nearing the end of her recovery, it’s essential that she gets some games in so Coach Andonovski can access her form before setting the World Cup roster.
Save of the Weekend
THIS is why Casey Murphy deserves a World Cup roster spot.
Goal of the Weekend
Alex Morgan celebrated Mother’s Day by scoring this calm, composed finish against the Current on Sunday! Shout out to all the NWSL moms redefining what it means to be a soccer mom!
Assist of the Weekend

Eintracht Frankfurt beat Wolfsburg 4-0 and secured their spot in next year’s UWCL. Wolfsburg is headed to this year’s final, so a four-to-zero defeat is shocking.
Player of the Weekend
Introducing the first goalkeeper in NWSL history to appear in 150 regular-season matches 🤩
Congratulations, Alyssa, on such an incredible milestone. ⭐️ pic.twitter.com/kjLuOVzSbt

Alyssa Naeher is the first goalkeeper to reach 150 NWSL regular-season appearances! Her record with the Red Stars this season isn’t spotless by any means, but this shows the experience Naeher brings to the table for the USWNT.
Game of the Weekend
#AngelCityFC's Ali Riley went to class with Alyssa Thompson this past week. Thompson tells the story:
"[She] went to Harvard-Westlake, so she wanted to get back to school and come with me to school one day. Go through a day in my life of going to training then going to school."
— Kamran Nia (@kamran_nia) May 11, 2023
I’m not highlighting the actual game as much as the pre-game here. And this might be the most precious moment the NWSL has ever seen. First, Ali Riley attended a day of school with Alyssa Thompson, and then Angel City played on her prom night, so they had a prom theme. The way this team supports Thompson, who’s still finishing out her school year, is so heartwarming.
