SPOTKICK: This Summer’s Must-Try Backyard Game

Have you ever wanted a way to play the game we all love that doesn’t involve finding a field? That’s where SPOTKICK comes into play. SPOTKICK is a new way to enjoy soccer, bringing a fun and creative spin to the game.

How Does SPOTKICK Work?

The game was created to be played with two teams of two but can also be played one-on-one.

The objective of the game is to be the first team to reach 25 points based on the custom SPOTKICK scoring system, or a team can automatically win if the ball is kicked directly into the spot. With partners standing on opposite sides, each player can work on kicking and trapping.

Points can be earned through one, three, and five increments. One point can be earned by kicking the ball straight through the goal. Three points are earned by hitting the crossbar/post. Five points can be earned in two ways, either by redirecting the ball into the spot, the hole on the top of the board, or by redirecting the ball into the reverse entrance of the goal.

SPOTKICK is a great addition for all members of the Girls Soccer Network community, regardless of skill level, because there are many different ways to play. The fun game can be used in training sessions by clubs or enjoyed at home with family and friends.

The Creation of SPOTKICK

SPOTKICK was created by Steve Franzke, who is no stranger to the game. He played collegiately at American University, where he was inducted into the school’s hall of fame, before moving onto the professional ranks, where he tried out for MLS teams but ultimately played semi-professionally in the USISL.

While his professional dream didn’t pan out, he was able to turn another dream into reality in his backyard with the help of his family and friends. Franzke struggled with injuries, but he wanted a way to still be able to play the game he loved with his kids. So after thinking about a concept for a while, the idea first came to life in 2018 when Franzke made his prototype, but after struggling with finding a company to help design the product, he took matters into his own hands and sold his first set in April 2021.

With SPOTKICK, he’s able to play the game with his kids while also creating a fun way for them to improve their ball control and skills.

Spotkick and the North Carolina Courage

Now a year later, since selling his first set, SPOTKICK has partnered with youth and college teams and has even shown up at training sessions for NWSL teams like the North Carolina Courage, the Kansas City Current, and more!
