Top 5 Goals: FA WSL and Westfield W-League

Before the SheBelieves Cup kicks off this week, we’d be remiss to not get you caught up on everything you might’ve missed from the FA WSL and W-League. Both leagues have a ton of quality to captivate the masses with and they dazzled fans with some great goals this week. Let’s take a look at the best women’s soccer goals from the FA WSL and Westfield W-League.

  1. Tameka Yallop – Brisbane Roar

Brisbane have put together a great season so far, sitting in second place in the W-League table. The Roar can always count on Tameka Yallop, one of their leaders. In this case, Yallop helped the team with a well-placed header, complete with a perfectly-timed jump and exquisite technique. The keeper failed to anticipate where Yallop’s header was going, and it consequently wound up in the back of the net.

  1. Nicoline Sorensen – Everton

Everton managed a 1-1 draw with Reading thanks to Nicoline Sorensen’s contribution off the bench. The buildup to this goal was almost as great as the goal itself. The ball went out to the wing and the high-looping cross into the box found Sorensen waiting on the back post. Her header went across the keeper and into the far corner of the net, securing a big point for Everton.

  1. Fran Kirby – Chelsea

Fran Kirby’s soccer genius knows no bounds. Her rejuvenation this season could very well lift Chelsea to the FA WSL crown. This flick-on header at the near post is ever so slight, but it’s enough to fool and beat everyone in Bristol City’s defenses. Chelsea are now five points clear at the top of the table and Fran Kirby is a big reason why.

  1. Chelsie Dawber – Adelaide United

This is a lovely piece of play from Adelaide United who are also playing well in the W-League this year. Isabel Hodgson completed a nicely-floated pass towards Chelsie Dawber who made a great adjustment to the ball. For Dawber to take that ball past the keeper with just one touch is something else. It’s team play that has Adelaide near the top of the table. Expect more great goals like this from them all season long.

  1. Caroline Weir – Manchester City

Manchester City defeated Manchester United in an important derby matchup with title implications. Caroline Weir provided the best moment of the match with an inspired chip from a difficult and unexpected position. First, she used her quick feet to beat one United defender before somehow chipping the keeper from 18 yards out. The finesse and touch from Weir are immaculate. This was the best goal of the week by a country mile.
