The Citizens earned bragging rights Friday night after beating crosstown rivals Manchester United 3-0. It’s a relatively new derby in women’s soccer, but it’s one that is quickly heating up as these sides boast two of the most talented rosters in the world.

City dominated Friday’s derby, holding the advantage in shots, possession percentage, and passes completed. Goals from Lucy Bronze, Lauren Hemp, and Caroline Weir sealed their victory at Manchester City Academy Stadium. The goal from Weir, I’ll go ahead and say it, was one of the finest you’ll ever see.

Sam Mewis Won’t Be at the SheBelieves Cup

Speaking of Manchester City, on Saturday, we got word the team’s most beloved 6-foot, American midfielder will not be joining the USWNT for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup. Sam Mewis is staying in England to rehab her ankle and has been replaced on the roster by Jaelin Howell.

Of course, we’re happy for Howell. However, we’re sad the Mewis sisters won’t be on the field together for the USWNT.

Not only are they, like, really good at soccer (both currently play for Chelsea), but they’re also incredibly generous and outspoken about LGBTQ+ rights. On Valentine’s Day yesterday, the Scandinavian power couple opened up their DMS to anybody who might be looking to chat about the struggles of being LGBTQ.
