This week the NWSL got a new commissioner and sponsor, there was a kit reveal, and Sydney Leroux fired back at the trolls. Additionally, International Women’s Day was on March 8, and we celebrated the day with plenty of WoSo appreciation!

The NWSL picked up another big sponsorship deal this week, with Delta Air Lines becoming the first airline and travel partner. Delta joins the list of growing big-name sponsors like MasterCard, Nike, Nationwide, Budweiser, and more.

News of the Weekend

After about a five-month search, the NWSL has found their new commissioner. Jessica Berman is set to start a four-year term in April. Before joining the NWSL, Berman was the deputy commissioner and executive vice president of business affairs for the National Lacrosse League. The committee involved in selecting Berman included players and select team owners.

Low of the Weekend

Now just a few days away from the start of the NWSL Challenge Cup, the regular-season schedule still hasn’t been released. As a result, fans and players are losing patience, waiting for the schedule to come out finally.

Player of the Weekend

Even though our player of the weekend isn’t a soccer player, she still deserves the hype. The NC Courage released their 2022 jerseys ahead of the Challenge Cup, and they’re amazing. After the jerseys were released, tennis player Naomi Osaka wore the new jersey during her exhibition match that day.

The goal of the Weekend

There were a lot of goals during Chelsea’s 4-1 win against West Ham United, but Pernille Harder’s second goal of the match was great all around. The ball to Sam Kerr, her hold-up play, then Ji So-Yun’s perfectly placed cross, and the finish.

In honor of International Women’s Day, Sydney Leroux posted a photo with Cassius scratched out as a joke, but the trolls came out. There were a ton of people complaining and not understanding the joke. Leroux’s response to the haters was great and is another example of why we love her.
